I lead a zine-making workshop focusing on visual storytelling as a tool to reflect on the natural world. This workshop was a part of Matipo Art’s ongoing workshop series “Walk, Talk and Do” as a part of the Matipo Arts workshop series: Walk, Talk and Do. These workshops are delivered in collaboration with “Roots to Wellbeing” and “Parndon Mill” and offer a safe, friendly space to improve the mental and physical well-being of local older people through nature, creativity and community. These workshops are targeted specifically to older members of the community and unpaid carers.
The zine-making session began with some light physical activity in the local natural surroundings led by a qualified walk leader from Roots to Wellbeing. Participants then headed indoors to create an illustrative zine that focused on what they saw, smelt, felt and heard on the walk. I created a guide to make a zine out of a piece of paper and an optional contact sheet of illustrations to cut out and colour if participants felt less comfortable drawing.
