I lead a zine-making workshop focusing on visual storytelling as a tool to reflect on the natural world. This workshop was a part of Matipo Art’s ongoing workshop series “Walk, Talk and Do” as a part of the Matipo Arts workshop series: Walk, Talk and Do. These workshops are delivered in collaboration with “Roots to Wellbeing” and “Parndon Mill” and offer a safe, friendly space to improve mental and physical wellbeing of local older people through nature, creativity and community. These workshops are targeted specifically to older members of the community and unpaid carers.
The zine-making session began with some light physical activity in the local natural surroundings led by a qualified walk leader from Roots to Wellbeing. Participants then headed indoors for to create an illustrative zine that focused on what they saw, smelt, felt and heard on the walk. I created a guide to make a zine out of a piece of paper and an optional contact sheet of illustrations to cut out and colour if participants felt less comfortable drawing.
